Will The New 2018 Tax Code Changes Affect Me?
In short: Yes, the new tax code changes affect everyone. They require new forms, new calculations, and new filing requirements for most taxpayers. Whether these changes will affect you positively or negatively, however, will depend on your unique circumstances. Since these changes were made so recently, it’s also highly likely that many people will make mistakes when self-filing due to the sheer number of new exceptions and specifications.
Can You Help Me Sort Out My Records?
Sometimes the biggest hurdle is that mess of loose paper in a drawer somewhere. We’re no stranger to taking in garbage bags of receipts and turning them into books and records.
Put it all into boxes, bags, or whatever you happen to have on hand. Then call us at (713) 893-7348. The first step to making sense of it all is setting an appointment. You’ll be amazed at the results!
Can You Help Me With Late Or Unfiled Returns?
Whether you’re on an extension, or you’ve been on a desert island the last few years, getting your taxes filed is easy once you’ve gotten started with My Tax Guy In Houston.
We’ll go through what you need, and set up a time to meet. You’ll get a list of everything you need to bring with you in the appointment link.
What Should I Do About A Letter From The IRS?
There are tons of different reasons why people receive letters from the IRS. We’ll need to see the letter and get more details about your tax situation—scan the notice and send it to us at tax@mytaxguyinhouston.com. We will send you back a clearly worded explanation of exactly what you need to do to respond to the notice.
How Long Will It Take To File My Taxes?
Generally speaking, our tax assignments are completed about 1 week after you’ve provided ALL of your tax reporting materials. Of course, if there’s a delay in receiving all of your required documents, then that will in turn delay the filing of your taxes.
What Happens If You File My Taxes And I Get Audited By The IRS?
Good question. We enroll almost all of our clients in a Protection Plus program for precisely this reason. Protection Plus is a third-party insurance service that will automatically handle any IRS audits, requests for information, and other requests. So in the highly unlikely case that you are audited after we’ve filed your taxes, any of the resulting effort, documentation, or correspondence with the IRS will automatically be taken care of at no extra cost to you.
What Happens If I Don't Provide All Of My Documentation To You On Time?
Naturally, this delays the filing and completeness of your return. You’ll most likely receive a notice from the IRS saying that they could not process your return, and require you to make an adjustment. In short, it’s really in your best interest to provide all of your documentation to us in a timely manner. For your own sake.
How Can I Lower My Taxes?
Everyone’s individual circumstances are different, so there’s really no way for us to give detailed advice on this topic. Generally speaking, the most common way to reduce your tax liability is to lose money doing something else such as running a business.
Sadly it’s inevitable that some people will misinterpret this information, so let’s re-emphasize the disclaimer from above:

How Much Will It Cost For You To File My Taxes For Me?
The fact that you’re looking to make an informed decision in selecting a tax consultant tells us that we’re already going to like you.
Simply put, every return is different. The overall complexity of your return is the primary driver in determining your final cost. However, the more organized and complete you are in your records, the lower your overall fees will be. For some general pricing guidelines, head over to our Pricing page.
How Should I Send My Tax Documents And Other Information To You?
For the love of all that is good and holy, please don’t send your tax documents to us via email. Not only is this a pain to organize, but more importantly, it’s a wildly insecure method for transmitting some of your most sensitive personal information. For the sake of both security and convenience, we recommend uploading all of your documentation to our secure customer portal. Just get in touch with us if you’d like to create an account.
We really love disclaimers.
