Walking through the neighborhood right behind where I live, I walked past a jumble of sodden trash out on the curb. Among this detritus were two plastic file boxes with hanging files in them, clearly marked “2015 W2” and “940/941”.
This is confidential information about the home owner’s employees, left out in the open for anyone to come by and retrieve.
If you are a business owner or employer, be very attentive as you’re cleaning up. Wet and moldering though they may be, you must protect this information by disposing of these records properly. Tossing out documents that can open you up to identity theft or liability for identity theft of others is a problem that you don’t need to add to your Harvey clean up.
